- 4 large yams
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/2 cup water
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Peel and slice the yams into 1-inch thick rounds.
- In a large baking dish, layer the yams and sprinkle with brown sugar, butter, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
- Pour water and vanilla extract over the yams.
- Cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes, then remove foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes until caramelized.
Notes
- For extra sweetness, you can add marshmallows during the last 10 minutes of baking.
- Let yams sit for a few minutes after baking for easier serving.
