- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons dried oregano
- 2 teaspoons dried basil
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 packet active dry yeast (2 1/4 teaspoons)
- 1 cup warm water
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine warm water and sugar, then stir in the yeast and let it sit for 5 minutes.
- Add flour, salt, oregano, basil, garlic powder, and olive oil to the yeast mixture, and mix until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Punch down the dough, then shape it into a loaf and place it in a greased loaf pan.
- Sprinkle mozzarella cheese on top, and let it rise again for 30 minutes.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped.
- Allow to cool before slicing.
Notes
- For extra flavor, add more herbs like thyme or rosemary.
- This bread is best enjoyed fresh but can be toasted later for a crispy delight.
