Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 2 large eggs
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1/4 cup cocoa powder
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1/4 cup powdered sugar
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Grease a 6-inch round cake pan and set aside.
- In a mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
- Gradually add the flour and mix until just combined. Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
- Let the cake cool completely before removing it from the pan.
- For the pastry cream, heat the milk and heavy cream in a saucepan until just simmering. In another bowl, whisk together the egg yolks with the sugar and cocoa powder.
- Slowly pour the hot milk mixture into the egg mixture, whisking continuously.
- Return the mixture to the saucepan and cook over medium heat, stirring until thickened. Remove from heat and let cool.
- Once the cake is cooled, slice it in half horizontally. Spread the pastry cream over the bottom layer and place the top layer back on.
- For the ganache, heat the heavy cream and pour it over the chocolate, letting it sit for a minute before stirring until smooth.
- Pour the ganache over the top of the pie and allow it to set before serving.
Notes
- Ensure all ingredients are at room temperature for best results.
- For extra flavor, you can add a pinch of salt to the ganache.
